"Presence of Villa-Lobos in Brazilian music for cello and piano"

Hugo Pilger, cello and Lúcia Barrenechea, piano

The duo formed by UNIRIO faculty members Hugo Pilger (cello) and Lucia  Barrenechea (piano) released in 2013 a CD/DVD/Bluray called "Presence of   Villa-Lobos in Brazilian music for cello and piano". With 2 hours and 20 minutes   of duration, it contains the first recording with the cello that belonged to Villa- Lobos (a Martin Diehl of 1779). The DVD/Bluray, directed by Liloye Boubli, with   photography of Fernando Duarte, and narration of Luiz Paulo Sampaio (subtitles   in English and Spanish) was shot in splendorous locations in Rio de Janeiro, like   Confeitaria Colombo, Palacio do Catete, Forte de Copacabana and Jardim Botanico.

The project includes, besides works by Villa-Lobos, Brazilian works that the   composer performed during his career as a cellist, as well as works by Homero  Dornellas, Francisco Mignone e Edino Krieger.

Lucia Barrenechea was Hugo Pilger’s advisor during his Master of Music studies  at UNIRIO, and his Master’s Dissertation “Heitor Villa-Lobos, the cello and its   idiomatism” was transformed in a book and released by CRV Publishing House.
