The Duo Barrenechea, formed by flutist Sergio Barrenechea and his wife, the pianist Lucia Barrenechea, has been performing extensively since 1989.
In 2019, the duo completes 30 years of performing music together. The programmed concerts are part of this celebration and present repertoire that marked the duo in several phases of its artistic journey.
They released in 2014 the CD/DVD “Brasileirissimo: Encounters”. Their first CD “Moments in Paris” was released in 2008, with French repertoire for flute and piano. In 2010, the Duo Barrenechea received a FUNARTE's award to present a tour in 10 Brazilian cities. The Duo presented U.S. tours in 2010 and 2012. In 2012, the Duo Barrenechea held a European tour to publicize the triple CD “The Flute Music of Francisco Mignone”. In 2016, Duo Barrenechea presented concerts at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna, at the XXXI International Festival of Flutists in Lima, Peru an at the 44th Annual National Flute Association Convention in San Diego, US. In 2017, they were invited to the 2017 Toronto Latin American Flute Festival presenting a concert and masterclasses, Toronto, Canada.
Brasileirissimo: Encounters
With the CD and DVD "Brasileiríssimo: Encontros”, the Duo Barrenechea celebrates its 25th anniversary making a journey through Brazilian music, picturing its trajectory and its encounters with composers and their works along these years. This hour-and-a-half musical documentary was filmed between January and April of 2014 in Brasília, Goiânia, Pirenópolis, Rio de Janeiro and Tiradentes.
Besides Brazilian music well-known names as Ernesto Nazareth and Francisco Mignone, the repertory includes composers of today like Vittor Santos, Ian Guest, Dawid Korenchendler, Liduíno Pitombeira, Alexandre Lunsqui, Rafael dos Santos, Arthur Verocai, Estércio Marquez Cunha and Elenice Maranesi, aiming to ofer a great variety of musical styles.
